Back Pain Relief You Can Buy At Your Local Drug Store

A number of options for over-the counter back pain medicine are as close as the local drug store. In addition to the usual back pain remedies such as Advil, Tylenol, and Motrin, a number of store brands offer back pain treatment, along with herbal over the counter medicine available at the local health food store. Often these remedies are used in conjunction with other back pain treatment to treat conditions that produce minor back pain. Of course more serious conditions may require rehabilitation and back pain treatments such physical therapy, chiropractics, acupuncture, or, in rare cases, back surgery.

When you experience back pain, it’s critical to know whether or not you have a serious condition. If your pain comes persists, is accompanied by numbness, loss of motion or other serious symptoms, see your doctor for a proper diagnosis. Luckily, though, for minor back pain, there are a number of over-the-counter options to try, including:

Aspirin. Used for decades as both an anti-inflammatory drug and a pain reliever, aspirin still provides relief to millions of sufferers of minor aches and pains.

  • Ibuprofen. This drug has many brand names including Motrin and Advil. In addition, many store and generic versions exist. It is also available in stronger doses with a prescription, but it has become widely popular as an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drug.
  • Acetaminophen. The most common brand name is Tylenol, but other brands exist. This is also an anti-inflammatory drug that relives pain. A prescription version is available with codeine added.
  • Herbal remedies. A number of herbal remedies exist to treat back pain ,and frequently health food stores have knowledgeable staff to help you sort through the options. Some of the most popular are arnica, and compounds made with oregano or turmeric.
