Simple Treatments And Home Remedies For Minor Aches And Pains

By Jarrett Kruse

Minor back pain is incredibly common in a society filled with sedentary jobs, traffic, and jobs that put our bodies under repetitive stress. It’s important to know when back pain goes beyond the normal, minor back ache and develops into serious back pain that’s indicative of a more severe condition. When simple back pain remedies— such as heat, ice or over-the-counter back pain medicine—fail, you should see your doctor or health care provider and get a firm diagnosis for the cause of your back pain. Depending on the location, severity, and persistence of you pain, your doctor may want to run tests to rule out any relationship between your back pain and cancer or other serious diseases.

It’s really important to rely on professional help if your back pain persists or doesn’t respond to expected treatment. If you know that you’re pain is minor, however, a number of home remedies may be effective:

Heat and Ice. Ice is generally used when you first suffer from an injury, and is then sometimes followed by heat. Sometimes alternating them in rapid succession for a minute or two at a time can increase circulation and relive pain.

  • Pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs. a number of over-the-counter drugs are effective in relieving irritation and pain in the back, including ibuprofen, acetaminophen, aspirin, and others.
  • Appropriate exercise. Strengthening muscles, increasing flexibility and improving range of motion go a long way toward alleviating back pain. Begin gently and gradually increase your level of exercise. Swimming, for example, can help strengthen your back without putting pressure on your skeleton.
