Neck Pain Symptoms
Eliminate The Pain In Your Neck
By Jarrett Kruse
Neck pain is a common condition and most of the time it’s caused by daily tasks such ad sitting at a computer or maintaining a position at the steering. Some times Neck pain is caused by a car accident and may be accompanied by back pain. Overuse and trauma such as an accident can cause muscle spasms and other neck pain symptoms, such as stiffness and soreness. Other symptoms may occur instead of or in addition to symptoms of neck pain, such as tingling or numbness down the arms or hands. A number of options for neck pain treatment address the causes and can bring both back and neck pain relief.
The kind of neck pain that comes with overuse is easy to recognize and it usually goes away on its own after a few days. You may want to help it along with some over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs or pain killers such as aspirin or ibuprofen. If the pain doesn’t clear up within a week or so, it’s time to seek professional medical help to eliminate the pain in your neck. There are times, however, when immediate medical attention is warranted:
- Severe pain after an injury. After trauma, such as whiplash or a blow to your head, seek immediate care. Severe pain over a bone might indicate a fracture or an injury to a ligament.
- Shooting pain. Pain radiating to your shoulder, through your shoulder blades or down your arm or fingers, with or without numbness or tingling may indicate nerve irritation.
- Loss of strength. Weakness in an arm or a leg, walking with a stiff leg, or shuffling your feet indicates a possible neurological problem.
- Change in bladder or bowel habits. Any significant change, especially a sudden onset of incontinence, could indicate a neurological problem.
- Loss of movement. Loss of movement or sensation should be checked out immediately to rule out spinal cord injury.
