Reduce Your Neck Pain And Alleviate Muscle Spasms

Muscle spasms are a common cause of neck pain and cane occur with overuse or injury. Muscles spasms are frequently related to neck pain and whiplash and may produce muscle pain in other areas as well. Luckily, most of the time pain treatment for lower back pain, neck pain muscle spasm pain, and upper back pain is relatively simple. Mant times home remedies or over-the-counter medication can relieve neck pain, but sometimes medical intervention is necessary.

Many times muscle spasms in the neck are caused by injury and overuse. Most of the time they go away within a few days. Home remedies including rest, ice, heat, massage, or over-the-counter medications usually take care of the problem. If they don’t, you may want to seek treatment from a chiropractor, massage therapist, or acupuncturist to alleviate the pain, after consultation with your health care professional to choose the best course of treatment. Occasionally, however, muscle spasms in the neck are a symptom of a more complicated condition, so if they persist it’s best to see your doctor for a proper diagnosis, which may include:

  • Viral infection. Sometimes a viral infection can cause muscle spasms in the neck
  • Cervical dystonia, also called spasmodic torticollis. This rare, painful condition cause your neck muscles contract involuntarily, causing your head to twist to one side or tilt forward or backward. Ther is no actual cure but there is treatment for the pain, ans sometimes the condition goes away on its own.
  • Spondylosis, also known as cervical osteoarthritis can occur at any age, but is most common in, men and women older than 40 and progresses with age. Men usually develop it at a slightly younger age than women do. The cartilage deteriorates and can cause painful bone spurs as well as muscle spasms, pain and stiffness.
